Core Official and Public Sources
canadahospitals.org/ uses official and public-interest sources to verify hospital directory fields. These sources are not all used on every page; editors choose the best source for each claim.
| Source | What it helps verify | Link |
|---|---|---|
| Official hospital websites | Address, phone, departments, appointment route, portal, parking and patient services. | Linked on each hospital page when available. |
| Provincial / territorial health ministries and health authorities | Facility ownership, health region, service network and official patient information. | Province-specific official links. |
| Health Canada | National health-system context and Canada Health Act background. | Health Canada health care system |
| CIHI | Health-system indicators, data context and hospital/system reporting. | CIHI |
| Statistics Canada / Open Government ODHF | Healthcare facility names, types, addresses and coordinates for cross-checking. | Open Database of Healthcare Facilities |
| Accreditation Canada / HSO | Accreditation and standards context where relevant and official. | Accreditation Canada |
Province and Territory Source Approach
Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories, and hospital information is often managed locally. For each hospital page we try to identify the relevant provincial/territorial health ministry, regional health authority, hospital network or official facility page before relying on broader web sources.
- For Ontario hospitals, we prefer the hospital’s own website and official provincial/health-system pages.
- For British Columbia hospitals, we verify the health authority or hospital network page when available.
- For Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Atlantic provinces, we check provincial health authority/hospital pages where relevant.
- For Quebec, we handle French/English naming carefully and verify CISSS/CIUSSS or hospital-network pages.
- For territories, we prioritise territorial government and official health-service pages.
Not a Ranking or Clinical Quality Database
Even when we link data sources, we do not tell readers which hospital is best for their condition. Quality data, wait times, patient experience and accreditation context require careful interpretation and should not replace professional guidance or official consultation.
Source Links and Reader Verification
Each hospital guide should give readers at least one official link so they can confirm the latest details directly. When a hospital changes a number, relocates a clinic, merges with a network or moves appointment pages, the official source is the final place to check.
